Liner socks are an essential. These socks move the moisture away from my feet into the outer wool socks I wear. The comfort difference is quite noticeable. These socks look pretty good as well.

I bought these for my husband who originally got some when we lived in England. His old ones have literally thousands of miles on them (he's a big hiker)and they still look great. These are his favorite socks for everyday use, as well. He doesn't wear them as a liner; he wears them alone. They aren't the most attractive socks in the world so he wears regular socks for dressy occasions, but otherwise these are his first choice - primarily, I think, because they "breathe". They are also great for travel as they are easy to wash and dry quickly.

I took these on a five-day, 40-mile backpacking trip. Two of the five days, we only went a few miles, and I just wore my outer socks, which were good quality, reinforced, dual-layer hiking socks. The other three days we were doing more miles, and I wore both sets.

It was astonishing how much more comfortable my feet were when I wore these liners. On the same trip, in the same heat (95F plus every day,) with the same loads, my feet were more comfortable after 10+ miles with these liners than after 3-4 miles without them.

They are not very thick -- about halfway between men's thin dress socks and athletic tube socks -- but they fit well, and the extra layer felt much better against my feet than the thicker hiking socks.

Highly recommended.
